Welcome!

 

We are excited you have signed up to attend the No Kings Protest 3 Protest!

This will be a PEACEFUL protest! A core principle behind all No Kings events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to this event. We ask that you be respectful of local businesses and do not block sidewalks or roadways.  

 

We want to peacefully show our opposition to the current administration’s complete disregard for the Constitution of the United States, the Rule of Law, and basic human rights of ALL who live in the United States.  We oppose the authoritarianism and corruption displayed at every turn by this administration.  We encourage you to participate, display your signs and speak about your issues.  

We have made some signs but not enough for everyone who has registered to attend. Sign ideas can be found at NoKings.org ; click on “Hosts” in the menu then “Graphics Library”. We are bringing a limited number of American flags to distribute on a first come, first serve basis. 

Helpful Hints

We do not expect there to be any serious issues at this event, however, it is always good to be prepared.

• Wear comfortable clothing and shoes. Also prepare for possible rainy, windy or even hot weather. After all, it is spring in Georgia! Don’t forget the sunscreen.

• Cover Identifiable features: Consider covering tattoos or scars to avoid easy identification.

• Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth: Keep your hands clean to prevent the spread of illness.

• Stay hydrated:  Drink plenty of water, especially if you are in a hot environment.

• Know your rights: Understand the legal aspects of protesting and your rights as a protestor. Please see the No Kings organization and ACLU “Know Your Rights” links below.

• Media: If you speak with the media, please share your story and why you are there to protest.

• Restrooms:  There are no public restrooms on the square. The nearest public restrooms are located about 2 blocks away at Greenville Street Park

• Leave the Courthouse Square area clean: Please dispose of empty bottles, cups, food, signs, etc.

Safety Items

• A thorough safety briefing will be given at the start of tomorrow’s protest.

• Numerous safety marshals will be on hand during the protest. You will be able to recognize them by their bright yellow reflective vests. The safety marshals are volunteers who are there to ensure the event remains safe, orderly, and nonviolent by managing crowd flow, de-escalating tensions, and guiding participants. 

• At the event, the safety marshals will be equipped with whistles. If you hear the whistles continuously, please sit or kneel down immediately. This is intended to warn protestors that someone is starting some sort of trouble. If the protestors sit, it leaves only the troublemakers standing and looking foolish. It will also be easy for law enforcement to spot the disrupters should the need arise. 

• Stay Vigilant: Be aware of your surroundings, potential hazards, and any changes in the situation.

• Avoid Confrontations: Steer clear of clashes with counter protesters or police and avoid violent actions. If you interact with police, DO NOT touch a police officer, a police vehicle, dog, etc.

• Document: Photograph or videotape police actions if you feel it's necessary, but do so in a safe manner.

• Protect Privacy: Turn off electronic devices and/or perhaps consider turning off the face or fingerprint access to electronic devices for the duration of the event

• Communication: Stay in touch with your group or contact person and let them know if you encounter any issues.

• Exit Strategy: Know how to exit the protest safely and have a plan in place
