Background

Pauline Nadege Binam is a 36-year-old survivor of domestic violence who has lived in the United States since she was two years old. Born in Cameroon, she came to the United States with her family as a child and has spent almost all of her life living, studying, and working in the U.S.

Pauline was previously taken into immigration custody many years ago, and while detained at Irwin County Detention Center, was one of many women subjected to medically unindicated procedures at the hands of a gynecologist contracted by ICE. Pauline herself had part of her fallopian tube removed without her consent. Pauline spoke out, and ultimately testified for many federal agencies about her experience. After months, Pauline was ultimately released from detention.

It was soon after her experience in Irwin County that she met her abuser. Pauline moved to Baltimore to be with her sister, but ultimately ended up in a relationship filled with much physical, sexual, and emotional violence. After enduring years of violence, she was eventually granted a protective order against her abuser. She obtained a U Visa Certification, signifying the abuse she suffered made her eligible to apply for a U Visa, a visa for victims of certain crimes in the U.S. Her U Visa would become just one of her many pending pathways to citizenship.

Demands:

We are demanding that the Atlanta ICE Field Office and Stewart Detention Center act now to #FreePauline! We call for an immediate release so Pauline can be reunited with her daughter and receive community support for the trauma she has endured while detained.

Pauline has not only been subjected to unnecessary and invasive surgery, but she has also experienced 2 cycles of detention where she has been separated from her minor daughter Samiyah who was born here in the U.S. Since Pauline's detention her daughter’s mental health has deteriorated. Samiyah desperately needs her mom to be released.

The conditions in Stewart detention have exacerbated Pauline’s trauma from the first time she was detained.

Pauline’s detention is unconstitutional. She needs to be home with her daughter, who desperately needs her mother. She belongs with her family, community, and loved ones, not in Cameroon, where she has no connections, and is at risk of persecution based on her sexual orientation and language ability. Continuing to hold Pauline only continues the torture and years long trauma Pauline has been forced to live with, we must act with urgency to get Pauline the support and healing she deserves.

Please take action, by demanding that Pauline be released from immigration detention and reunited with her family..

In 2020 Binam’s deportation was halted after pressure from immigration rights advocates and members of Congress. We are calling on them to visit Pauline at Stewart Detention to see first hand her experience, and apply this pressure again for her release.

Oppose Funding for War and SAVE America Act

July 22, 2026: By a vote of 216-214, the House has passed H.Con.Res. 113, the initial procedural resolution to proceed with the budget reconciliation bill. A party line vote with Republican reps Davidson (OH), Massie (KY), and Kiley (I-CA) voting No with Democrats. The resolution now moves to the Senate.

Republicans in the House Budget Committee have advanced, by a vote of 20-14, a framework for a third party-line budget reconciliation bill, as Republican leaders rush to get the measure through both chambers before the August recess.

The resolution outlines $95 billion in new spending, including $60 billion for the Armed Services Committee and $13 billion for the Intelligence Committee for Trump’s ongoing, unauthorized war with Iran. It also sets aside $12 billion in farm assistance to compensate for skyrocketing agricultural costs that are directly tied to the war, and another $10 billion which could be used to advance elements of Trump’s unpopular anti-voter SAVE America Act.

None of the bill’s spending is offset and could add more than $100 billion to the national deficit. Fiscal hawks within the party have pushed for additional spending cuts, largely to social programs to pay for it, but the resolution leaves no room for that.

This budget package funds an unauthorized war and a voter suppression policy without opening the floor to a real debate on either. A floor vote is expected during the week of July 20th. Call your representatives and tell them to oppose Budget Reconciliation 3.0.

July 23, 2026: A new draft of the Clarity Act includes a Trump-approved ethics provision that would ostensibly bar federal officials, including presidents, from issuing or sponsoring cryptocurrencies until 2029. However, enforcement of ethics restrictions would be left up to the Department of Justice rather than state attorneys general, a point of contention for congressional Democrats who previously supported the bill but say the DOJ under Trump cannot be trusted to enforce the law.

A sweeping piece of crypto legislation called the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, H.R. 3633 or the CLARITY Act, passed the House by a wide bipartisan margin in July of 2025 and cleared the Senate Banking Committee on May 14. Lawmakers are under pressure to move the bill before the August recess, and in order to pass, the CLARITY Act needs 60 votes, with at least seven Democrats joining Senate Republicans.

The bill, which is supported by multiple crypto companies, would gut investor protections that have been on the books since the Great Depression, replacing robust Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) oversight with a more hands-off regulating body. It would also wipe out dozens of state-level consumer fraud protections, leaving everyday investors with fewer options when things go wrong. Law enforcement agencies, including the National Sheriffs’ Association, have warned that Section 604 of the bill would hinder investigations and make it harder to catch money launderers who use decentralized platforms to move illicit funds.

The bill also has a serious conflict of interest problem. The Trump family has already made an estimated $2.3 billion from crypto ventures and meme coins, yet his administration has been one of the bill’s loudest champions. Ethics provisions that would address these conflicts have been repeatedly sidelined during negotiations.

This legislation puts both consumers and our financial systems at risk, while doing nothing to stamp out corruption. Tell your Senators to oppose the CLARITY Act.

Block Harmful Provisions in the NDAA Defense Budget

July 22, 2026: By a vote of 216-212, the House has passed H.R. 8800, their version of the NDAA. Democratic reps Cuellar (TX), Davis (NC), Golden (ME), Gonzalez (TX), Gray (CA), and Perez (WA) voted Yes with Republicans, while Republican reps Brecheen (OK), Burchett (TN), Crane (AZ), Hageman (WY), Luna (FL), Massie (KY), and Roy (TX) voted No with Democrats. Speaker Johnson now plans to attach the NDAA to the SAVE America Act and a voter ID bill before sending it to the Senate. However, the Senate may opt to move forward on their own version of the NDAA, S. 4784.

The Trump administration is asking Congress to approve a record-breaking $1.5 trillion Pentagon budget, the largest inflation-adjusted defense budget in American history. Rather than investing in the modern, cost-effective capabilities our military actually needs, it funds Trump’s vanity projects while supporting dangerous foreign entanglements. The massive bills, H.R. 8800 and S. 4784, include:

Section 219 (formerly Section 224) of H.R. 8800 / Section 1217 of S. 4784 which would give Israel unprecedented access to American military technology, while forcing the U.S. to integrate Israeli defense systems into our own supply chain.

A provision to codify Trump’s order to rename the Department of Defense to the Department of War, with an estimated cost of up to $125 million.

$17.5 Billion for the “Golden Dome.” Modeled on Israel’s Iron Dome, this proposed missile defense shield is unlikely to ever be fully operational and would cost an estimated $1.2 trillion to develop, deploy, and operate for 20 years.

Funding for Trump’s battleships. While the current NDAA introduces some guardrails on the “Trump-class” battleship program, it stops short, leaving the door open for billions in spending on a weapons platform that defense experts say makes little strategic sense for our Navy.

Anti-trans amendments restricting TRICARE medical coverage for gender-related care and barring transgender students from women’s K-12 sports at Department of Defense-run schools.

Taxpayers should not be forced to bankroll outlandish and expensive projects that do little to improve our national security and deepen our ties to a foreign government’s military in the midst of an unnecessary war. Demand that Congress reject these harmful provisions and pass a defense budget that reflects real threats and real priorities.
